Manchester United and Liverpool have been told it would take a whopping fee of £105million to prise Sergej Milinkovic-Savic away from Lazio in January or beyond. The Serbian midfield menace has long been linked with a mega-money move to the Premier League but the Serie A outfit are yet to receive any formal bids for the highly-rated 27-year-old, who has remained committed to Lazio.

Milinkovic-Savic’s contract in Rome is slowly dwindling down but with his deal not due to expire until the summer of 2024, Lazio still hold all of the cards over any potential sale.

The club’s president Claudio Lotito has now moved to deny rumours linking the player with a January switch to Italian rivals Juventus, claiming there is no gentleman’s agreement in place with any club.

Instead, Lotito has claimed that Milinkovic-Savic is now more expensive than ever – declaring his valuation is now set at an eye-watering £105m.

“I have no agreement with his agent [Mateja] Kezman to sell him to Juventus or anyone else in the winter,” Lotito told Il Messaggero.

“On the contrary, he is now worth €120m [£105m], not €100m [£88m]. Every month the price goes up.”

Milinkovic-Savic enjoyed his best-ever Serie A campaign last term, netting 11 goals and registering 11 assists under the tutelage of Maurizio Sarri.

He has already started the 2022/23 campaign in blistering form, scoring three times and recording seven assists in his opening nine Serie A matches.

Arguably, Milinkovic-Savic’s greatest quality is his availability and consistency at the top level.

He has made over 30 appearances in each of the last six Serie A campaigns, scoring 50 goals in the process.

Milinkovic-Savic is represented by former Chelsea striker Kezman and the former Serbian frontman was forced to shoot down rumours linking his client to Manchester United after fake quotes from himself were peddled around the media.

Kezman said in May: “It’s fake news. I have never given interviews in the last period, some journalists are really incredible!

“I’m very angry, it is a lack of respect towards me, towards Sergej and Lazio.”

Liverpool have been linked with a surprise left-field move for Milinkovic-Savic in the past few weeks but the rumours are believed to be wide of the mark.

The Reds are open-minded about signing another central midfielder but they are believed to be focusing their efforts on a 2023 move for Jude Bellingham.

United could yet enter the fray for Milinkovic-Savic though with another central midfielder still very much on the agenda despite the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Lazio are keen to tie their talismanic midfielder down to a new contract with a bumper release clause but there has not been any progress on that front, to date.
