Man Utd and Liverpool confirm six first team absences ahead of kick-off
Manchester United and Liverpool will both be missing first-team players ahead of tonight's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The two sides were originally due to go head-to-head on May 2 but fan protests resulted in the match being called off.
Both teams have sustained further injuries since then and will be forced into changes this evening.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defenders Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies are both unavailable for the Reds, with midfield duo James Milner and Naby Keita also ruled out.
"We train from time to time and you cannot just put a boy on the pitch if he’s not in the shape for that in that moment – you have to find another solution," said Klopp when asked about his injured stars.
"Rhys [Williams], for example, is now in a really good moment and that helps obviously. Who we will line up, we will see.”
Meanwhile for United, Anthony Martial, Daniel James and Harry Maguire will play no part in this historic fixture.
Club captain Maguire is the obvious miss for the Red Devils, though the United boss remained optimistic about the former Leicester City man returning for the club's Europa League final versus Villarreal on May 26.
Solsjkajer told MUTV: “He’s obviously had the scans and the good news is there is no fracture. [There’s] ligament damage but hopefully we will see him again this season. Hopefully, he’ll be ready for the [Europa League] final.”
On Martial and James, the Norwegian added: “Anthony’s looking good. He has just about started outside jogging, which is the first step on the rehab of course.
“Dan James is not available. He’s still out for a little while.”
Tonight's fixture at Old Trafford will play a major part in deciding Liverpool's top-four hopes.
United's defeat to Leicester on Tuesday means Klopp's men cannot afford to drop any points from now until May 23.
The Liverpool boss is still searching for a first league win at the home of the Red Devils and will recognise the value that three points will bring tonight.
