Man Utd and Chelsea have golden opportunity to complete bargain £66m Erling Haaland deal

Transfer update: Latest on Haaland, Messi and Salah

Manchester United and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland and they will have the perfect opportunity to strike this summer. Reports in Spain suggest the forward could be available for just £66million at the end of the season.

Dortmund are apparently in an ‘economical crisis’ and would allow their top goalscorer to leave for well below market value.

United are desperate for a new striker as Anthony Martial continues to draw blanks.

The Red Devils were beaten to Haaland’s signature 12 months ago when the Norwegian opted to move to the Bundesliga from Red Bull Salzburg.

Solskjaer, who met up with the player to try and convince him to move to Old Trafford, has never cooled his interest.

Chelsea have also been linked with the 20-year-old to help propel them to Premier League glory.

And a summer swoop seems like it would be the best opportunity to strike.

That is because OK Diario claim Real Madrid are plotting a 2022 bid for Haaland – meaning this year there will be less competition.

Los Blancos will focus on trying to attain the services of Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season before switching their attention to Haaland the following year.

Real and Dortmund are said to have an excellent relationship following the transfer of Achraf Hakimi.

That means United and Chelsea must act quickly to make their move before the La Liga giants.

Ok Diario adds that Dortmund may only ask for a £66m (€75m) fee because they are apparently struggling financially.

Haaland has a release clause for the same amount but that does not become active until 2022.

The attacker’s agent Mino Raiola is likely to ask for a big fee to facilitate the move.

Despite being linked with a move away from the Bundesliga, Haaland’s father Alf-Inge, formerly of Manchester City and Leeds, reckons his son is happy in Germany.

“Now he is happy at Dortmund, but Erling loves challenges and in football you never know. We will see,” he said.

Haaland is under contract until 2024 and his goalscoring form has made him one of Europe’s hottest properties.
