Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has missed a training session through illness, the club has reported.

A statement from Bayern gave no date for the 27-year-old’s return, with the news coming days after reports that he was close to joining Inter Milan.

A deal is yet to be agreed, but reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Inter have increased their offer for Pavard and are confident of getting a deal done.

Man United had been heavily linked with a move for the fullback, who won the World Cup with France in 2018.

However, it appears that Erik ten Hag’s side have fallen behind in the race and may miss out to Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Jamal Musiala is also unavailable after picking up a hamstring injury in training

It is unclear whether Pavard’s ‘illness’ is linked to a potential move away from the club, but he does have just one year remaining on his contract at Bayern, so this is the last opportunity for the German club to get a significant transfer fee.

Thomas Tuchel’s side also announced that Jamal Musiala is unavailable after picking up a hamstring injury in training.

The 20-year-old enjoyed something of a breakthrough campaign in 2022/23, scoring 16 goals across all competitions.

His 89th minute winner against Cologne on the final day of the season clinched the Bundesliga title.

While Musiala will undoubtedly be missed at the German giants they will be buoyed by the arrival of Harry Kane from Tottenham.

After a disappointing debut in the Super Cup, he scored in his first Bundesliga appearance on Friday, as Bayern beat Werder Bremen 4-0.

If the 30-year-old can produce his best form in Germany this season, it will be a tough ask for anyone stopping the Bavarian side winning their 12th Bundesliga title in a row.
