Man United shirts with Mason Greenwood's name will NOT be available

Man United shirts with Mason Greenwood’s name are NOT available on their website – despite him being on their retained list – but Marcel Sabitzer jerseys are still available to buy

  • Mason Greenwood was retained by Manchester United despite an investigation
  • Marcel Sabitzer was thought to be on his way out of Old Trafford after his loan
  • United’s megastore is BLOCKED by furious fans protesting the takeover process

Manchester United have not made shirts printed with Mason Greenwood’s name available on their official website.

The player’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain despite charges of rape and assault being dropped against him by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.

The England international has not played for the Red Devils since January 22 2022, but was kept on the club’s list of retained players at the end of last season, sparking speculation over the player’s place at United.

He had recently been spotted training on his own during the off-season at an £85-an-hour public facility, with United believed to be weighing up what to do with the 21-year-old.

However, there was a surprise customisation option on the club’s website for supporters wanting to personalise their shirt with squad players’ names, with Marcel Sabitzer’s No 15 jersey available for their latest kit.

Greenwood’s No 11 is not available for selection while Sabitzer’s No 15 remains on the list

Despite his suspension with full pay, Greenwood’s No 11 has not yet been reassigned despite not playing for the club in 18 months.

The Austrian midfielder was signed on a short-term loan in January from Bayern Munich, and was quick to impress during his brief stay at Old Trafford last term.

Yet his continued participation for Erik ten Hag’s side was seemingly ruled out amid reports he would be leaving the club alongside fellow loanee Wout Weghorst this summer.

But the availability of shirts with his name on the back might raise a few eyebrows amid the Red Devils faithful, and could fan suggestions that United are not ruling out a return for the Austrian international.

The versatile 29-year-old had scored three goals from midfield, as well as providing an assist, and is capable of playing on the wings, as well as in centre-attacking midfield and in a deeper-lying role.

Speculation is rife that Greenwood’s immediate future lies elsewhere, with reports suggesting he is set for a loan spell away from Old Trafford until the end of his contract.

His current deal at the Red Devils is up in summer 2025, while his club are still undergoing an internal investigation to decide what to do with the player.

Greenwood is in fact believed to have put his Cheshire mansion up for let for over £15,000-per-month, adding to the speculation he could be in for a temporary switch in the off-season.

The Red Devil’s new red home kit has recently been unveiled ahead of the 2023-24 season

Wout Weghorst will not be staying at the club beyond the end of his loan – having arrived in the same month as Sabitzer

United are believed to have had extensive talks with the player – who is not expected to join training until pre-season at the earliest, and pending the investigation – about the next steps.

Mail Sport reported in March that Man United were thought to have rejected offers for their player from a number of Turkish clubs.

United fans are currently waiting to find out who out of Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has won the long-running battle for control from the Glazers.

However, The Telegraph says that battle will have no impact on whether or not Greenwood remains at the club and that they will not wait for the outcome to decide his future.
