Manchester United threw away another two-goal lead in Europe to leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.
Erik ten Hag’s side raced into a two-goal lead and looked in command, but it soon unravelled and it went from a comfortable night for Andre Onana to another nightmare.
Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech scored twice from free-kicks and substitute Kerem Aktürkoğlu came back to haunt United once again as his goal cancelled out United’s third via Scott McTominay.
It means United’s hopes of progressing are now incredibly remote as they must beat Bayern Munich in the final round and hope FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray play out a draw.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)
Andre Onana – 4
Gambled on Hakim Ziyech’s first free-kick – and got it wrong – and then made a huge error to spill the former Chelsea man’s second into the net at 3-2. Will have had flashbacks to his nightmare in Munich against Bayern.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Played key roles in the first and third goal and it was his assist, pin-point, to Scott McTominay on the break away that made it 3-1. United are so much better with him in the team. Booked.
Harry Maguire – 6.5
Made a huge block on Wilfried Zaha at 2-1 and has grown into one of Manchester United’s most important players. His experience helped in large spells but it wasn’t enough to see a tough away game out.
Victor Lindelof – 6
Was part of a defence that conceded three but acquitted himself well for the most part. Will have been disappointed to have left Mainoo exposed with Akturkoglu for the equaliser at 3-3.
Andre Onana made two huge errors and he buried his head after Ziyech’s second free-kick
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (left) impressed down the right and he teed up Scott McTominay’s goal
Luke Shaw – 5.5
Returned to the side against Everton and was trusted again despite a lack of games in recent months. Struggled in his battle with Ziyech, who scored twice. Booked.
Sofyan Amrabat – 5
Preferred to 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo from the off due to his experience in such a trying environment, but he never quite got a grip of the game. His loan spell appears to have stalled after a bright start. Hooked before the hour. Booked.
Scott McTominay – 6.5
Was a passenger for much of the first half but he showed all of his quality to score United’s third goal. He’s so much better further forward than as a screen in front of the defence.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7
Set United on their way after scoring his first ever Champions League goal and he was a nuisance for the hosts thereafter. He’s got ice in his veins and that’s a perfect trait to play for a club the size of Manchester United.
Alejandro Garnacho has ice in his veins and his goal to set United on their way was brilliant
Antony avoided being taken off in Turkey but he didn’t offer enough to justify that decision
Bruno Fernandes – 7.5
Teed up Garnacho and then scored his first Champions League goal this season with an absolute stunner. Can never fault his effort but he did give away the free-kick that Ziyech first scored from. Booked.
Antony – 5
Showed a couple of flashes as United dominated the early stages and raced into a 2-0 lead but as he so often does he faded into the background. Didn’t offer anywhere near enough given he was left on when others were withdrawn.
Rasmus Hojlund – 6
It was his brilliant hold-up that allowed Fernandes to tee up Garnacho for the opener but he was kept in relative check from there on. Important to note he was returning to the side from injury and was hooked before the hour.
Manager: Erik ten Hag – 5.5
A frustrating sense of deja vu for the Dutchman after another two-goal lead was thrown away in Europe. This time it was still 11 v 11 but his substitutes didn’t impact the game like Galatasaray’s did. Destiny is not in their hands ahead of the Bayern game now.
Erik ten Hag saw substitutes fail to have the desired impact as another 2-0 lead slipped away
Galatasaray (4-2-3-1): Muslera 6, Boey 6.5, Bardakci 6, Ayhan 5.5, Angelino 6 (Nelsson 82); Torreira 6.5, Ndombele 4.5 (Sergio Oliveira 60, 6.5); Ziyech 8.5 (Baris Yilmaz 83), Mertens 6 (Akturkoglu 60, 7.5), Zaha 5.5 (Demirbay 88); Icardi 6.
Subs not used: Guvenc, Tete, Karatas, Bakambu.
Scorers: Ziyech (29, 62), Akturkoglu (71)
Referee: Jose Maria Sanchez (Spain) – 6
