Man United 'offered chance to sign former Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata'

Man United are ‘offered the chance to sign former Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata’ with Erik ten Hag ‘looking for a striker happy with a bench role’ to sit behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial

  • Atletico Madrid are looking to part ways with Spanish striker Alvaro Morata
  • The Spaniard has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Serie A side Juventus
  • Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his attacking options at Old Trafford
  • United have been offered the chance to sign ex-Chelsea player Morata

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign former Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish striker has spent the past two seasons on loan at Serie A giants Juventus, though Atletico have no plans to let him go on loan again, and would prefer to let him go on a permanent deal.

ESPN have reported that the Red Devils have been offered the chance to sign Morata, who has another two years left on his contract.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his attacking options

Erik ten Hag is on the lookout for a physical striker who is happy with a place on the bench, and can offer a different option to Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial.

United saw Arnautovic as a cut-price option but ended their pursuit of the Austria striker following backlash from supporters.

This came after the club had a £7.5million bid rejected by Bologna for the 33-year-old.

It was previously reported that Atletico Madrid are holding out for offers of around £29.5m for Morata – to recoup some of the £51m they paid Chelsea in July 2020.

Morata has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus but Atletico don’t want another loan

Morata has played for four of European football’s biggest teams in Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atletico and Juve, yet has never managed to cement his status as one of the game’s top marksmen.

He struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League when he was at Chelsea, scoring 24 goals, but being loaned out in January during his second season at the club.

And that journeyman reputation looks set to continue as Simeone looks to move him on this summer for good, following his two seasons in Turin.

Ten Hag wants a striker who can offer support to Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial

The Spanish international scored 22 goals in 61 appearances for Atletico Madrid, before his loan spells to Juventus over the past two seasons.

For the Bianconeri he would go on to score 32 goals in 92 appearances – in what was his second spell at the club –  after he previously scored 27 in 93 games before spells at Real Madrid and Chelsea.

It has been a frustrating first summer at Old Trafford for Ten Hag who was unable to bring in a forward before the start of the season.

Martial missed their opening defeat to Brighton, while Ronaldo is not yet match-fit after missing most of pre-season.

To date, United have brought in full-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.
