  • Manchester United have joined the race to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea
  • The Red Devils could use Newcastle’s Scott McTominay interest to fund a move
  • Selling goalkeeper Dean Henderson could help United raise the funds required

Manchester United could look to raise funds for their £55million pursuit of Mason Mount by cashing in on Dean Henderson and Scott McTominay, according to reports.

Mail Sport revealed that Mount is a primary target for Erik ten Hag heading into the summer transfer window and the United boss wants a deal wrapped up quickly.

Mount is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge with his future under increasing uncertainty.

United want to pay in the region of £55m for the England international, a price that falls way below Chelsea’s £85m valuation.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils could use interest in Henderson and McTominay to help their pursuit.

United are reportedly expecting Newcastle to reignite their interest in McTominay this summer, following the Magpies securing a place in next season’s Champions League.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is an admirer of the Scotland international, with the club having expressed an interest last summer and in the January transfer window.

McTominay has played 36 matches for Man United in all competitions this season, but has only made 10 starts in the Premier League.

Henderson’s future is also uncertain with the goalkeeper set to return from a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest.

The goalkeeper previously criticised United for misleading him about the amount of game time he would receive at the club, shortly after joining Forest.

Forest are expected to pursue a permanent move for the goalkeeper, despite Henderson having been ruled out of the second half of the season with a thigh injury.

United are reportedly hopeful the fees received for Henderson and McTominay would allow them to win the race for Mount.

Arsenal are also interested in Mount as Mikel Arteta looks to build on his team’s second-placed finish this season, while Liverpool are actively pursuing a deal as Jurgen Klopp seeks to rebuild his midfield after a difficult season.

Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing Mount with his Chelsea contract talks having stalled

Man United could look to reunite Mount with his childhood friend Declan Rice at Old Trafford

Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Mount and – in an ideal world – would prefer him to sign a new contract.

Man United have also joined the race to sign £100m-rated West Ham captain Declan Rice.

United’s interest in Rice and Mount opens up the prospect of the boyhood friends playing in the same team next season.
