Manchester United ‘could hire a recruitment expert to help them find David de Gea’s successor ahead of his contract expiring next summer… with the club ‘determined to bring in the world’s best goalkeepers’

  • Man United want to restructure their scouting system to attract top goalkeepers
  • David de Gea’s deal expires next summer and United are looking at the future
  • The club are looking at bringing in a recruitment expert to find his successor

Manchester United are gearing up to find David de Gea’s successor, and could bring in a recruitment expert to help them attract some of the world’s best keepers.

De Gea has been at Old Trafford for 11 years but his time at United could soon be coming to an end with his contract expiring next summer – and officials are yet to decide whether they want to extend it.

The Spaniard is still only 31 and has plenty of years left in him, but the club are still thinking about his replacement and are considering an expansion to their scouting department that could see an analyst brought in, according to ESPN.

The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer with Erik ten Hag yet to make a decision on him

A new job advert is looking for a candidate who can ‘contribute to the continued expansion and development of the technical chief scout team at Manchester United Football Club, with the specific purpose of identifying players who demonstrate the potential to play for the first team’.

The report claims this new role will focus on looking for goalkeepers as United look for another figure who can follow in the footsteps of Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel by becoming long-term No1s and fan favourites.

United currently have Martin Dubravka as a back-up keeper after he was signed from Newcastle United in the summer, while Dean Henderson has been sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest this season.

De Gea has played 501 games for United since taking over the No jersey back in 2011

De Gea has already played 501 matches for United in his spell spanning longer than a decade, having taken over the No 1 jersey immediately after the departure of Van der Sar – and now the club want their next first choice shot stopper in place.

Speaking about De Gea’s future this week, Ten Hag said he was ‘really happy’ with the Spaniard and said they would assess the situation with him after the World Cup.

‘We didn’t make a decision on him, but what I can say is that I am really happy with David De Gea as a keeper,’ he said.

‘His first two performances of the season were not his best performances, but after you see he brings us a lot for the defence department, gives stability and as a person I like him.

‘I can really cooperate with him really well but first we go to the winter and then we will talk about how we deal with the situations.’
