The second Manchester derby of the season is here and it’s all set up to be a critical moment at the top-end of the Premier League, as United face City.

United’s task has got even tougher, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane all ruled-out. The Old Trafford side are distant underdogs for this one, but they’ve turned it on at the Etihad before.

A big victory for Manchester City as they extend to six points ahead of Liverpool again.

Another miserable evening for United, who surrendered in the second-half after at least attempting to take the game to City in the first-half. Roy Keane fury loading…

It’s been a humiliating half of football for Man United, and Mahrez sticks the boot in again. Gundogan slips a fantastic ball through to the Algerian, who lashes it at the middle of the goal. The ball deflects off De Gea’s face and in.

A long VAR check deduces that Mahrez was inches onside.

City fans know they have this now, as City cruise to the whistle. The fans start doing the poznan in the stands to celebrate a massive three points.

Pep Guardiola brings to a close another De Bruyne clinic, as the Belgian is replaced by Gundogan following his first-half double.

United’s changes have done nothing to stop the City onslaught, with Rashford looking no more or less lifeless than he has all season. United look beaten.

It’s been coming, and it’s wonderful! De Bruyne fizzes a corner to the edge of the box where Mahrez is arriving late in plenty of space. The Algerian watches it onto his boot and volley through the crowd, the ball taking a nick of Maguire and flying past De Gea.

After watching City take overwhelming control of the second-half, Rangnick has made a timely change.

Pobga is replaced by Lingard, as Elanga makes way for Rashford.

Maguire clumsily hacks down De Bruyne just as City were launching into a counter attack. It’s a nasty foul, and evidence of United starting to buckle.

United go from a corner chance all the way back to De Gea, and the keeper’s long kick falls straight to a City shirt. They counter, with Mahrez cutting in from the left and looking to shoot… but he’s hacked down by Fred on the edge. Very nice free-kick position…

De Bruyne strikes low towards the bottom-corner, and De Gea gathers.

Mahrez takes a shot from outside the box which whistles just over. United’s goal is starting to be peppered now, with only the odd counter chance for the visitors.

Rangnick needs to respond to this City superiority. Wan-Bissaka is being run ragged by City’s left-sided attack.

Very clear from the outset of this half that City are targeting that left side, specifically Wan-Bissaka. He’s caught out again in possession, this time by Foden, and the forward will be disappointed with his shot at De Gea.

City press forward straight away this half, as Bernardo Silva looks to take on Wan-Bissaka. The Portuguese midfielder looks to skip past the full-back, who muscles his way in front of the City man.

Wan-Bissaka tries to kick it off Silva for a goal-kick but it backfires, and the ball falls to De Bruyne. The shot is deflected away.

Back underway, this should be a cracking 45 minutes.

City lead at the break through De Bruyne’s double after a high-class derby game, with Jadon Sancho’s goal keeping United in it.

United go close with the final chance of the half. Elanga crosses to the front-post and Telles tries a scissor-kick, but Stones blocks. The Portuguese full-back then sends in a corner and the ball falls to Maguire four yards from goal, but the ball trickles through to Ederson.

City are looking to put more space between themselves and United before the break. Mahrez dives down the right side, cutting in on Telles again and whipping a left-foot shot towards the far corner. De Gea does well to make a diving save, and Fodem, Grealish and Silva get in each other’s way to spoil the rebound.

Back underway and United look to settle into a bit of possession, but Pogba gives it away to De Bruyne in midfield. The Belgian strides forward, and the counter is on.

He slips the ball to Foden making a run to his left but the angle closes down on the forward, and the shot dribbles wide.

Both teams stroll over for a chat with their managers after alerting the referee of a medical emergency in the crowd.

Applause goes up in that section moments later, hopefully it’s good news.

A good derby intensity to this game, but both sides are keen to keep the ball down and play. Tough tackles, yes, but this has been a high quality match so far.

City lead again! United’s equaliser didn’t last long.

Elanga gives it away deep in his own half on the right and the ball is bounced through to Foden. With a wonderful flick the Englishman dances through and stabs his shot at goal, parried once more by De Gea. Silva arrives to smash the follow-up straight at the Spaniard but still it isn’t clear, and De Bruyne finally finishes it.

United are level! And it’s a deserved goal, as they’ve slowly worked their way into this game.

United counter clinically with great work between Pogba and Fernandes on the halfway line, setting up Pogba to play a lovely ball through to Sancho on the left-side. The winger cuts onto his right and bends one into the bottom corner against his old club. Game on.

De Bruyne is at it today. The Belgian muscles his way into the box, beating his man and getting the shot off. He forces a big save out of De Gea, who parries it into the danger area.

Maguire and Foden are grappling for it and the England defender lunges to nick it away from his international team-mate. The referee gives a foul against Foden.

United have only managed a couple of scrappy moves forward so far. This one sees Fred stumble into the penalty area only for the ball to run through to Ederson. Now they’ll look to grab a foothold.

City are already ahead… and it’s not looking good for United.

The hosts instantly take command of possession, and they’re allowed to build up an attack. Grealish does well to make space for Bernardo Silva, who surges to the byline to cross from the left. It’s allowed to run into the centre of the box, and De Bruyne is there to sweep home.

Underway at the Etihad for a game that could play a key factor in the order of the Premier League table come May…

We’re all ready for kick-off now, here’s a final reminder of our line-ups…

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Grealish, Foden

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Pogba, Elanga, Sancho

Moments away from kick-off now and the players have gathered around the centre circle for a big show of support for Ukraine. Lots of blue and yellow flags flying in the stands as the players complete a minute’s applause.

Man United go in search of a fourth-straight victory at the Etihad… a surprising statistic following the English giants’ fall from grace. What can Rangnick do to emulate Solskjaer’s success on enemy territory?

In Ronaldo’s absence United start without a recognised striker, just like City. Maguire comes back in to replace Varane, who is absent due to a Covid positive. Telles starts at left-back as Shaw also drops out of the squad with Covid.

Guardiola leaves Sterling out of line-up in favour of a Grealish, Mahrez and Foden front-three. Rubed Dias out injured.

How do United and City’s teams match-up? Sportsmail takes a look at just how far the Old Trafford side have fallen behind their rivals.

De Bruyne is here. The Belgian has seen plenty of derby days during his time in Manchester, and he’ll know how pivotal this one could be.

The big news this morning is that Cristiano Ronaldo will play no part in this game. Full story here…
