Man City to ‘walk away’ from Kane deal as Daniel Levy sticks by asking price

Manchester City are reportedly set to walk away from a deal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur if the club does not lower their asking price for the England captain.

Spurs have so far refused to listen to offers worth less than £150million for the 28-year-old and City will not maintain their interest if they do not sign the striker this summer.

Their first bid of £100million was rejected by Spurs and a second bid is expected with City wanting the deal wrapped up before the transfer deadline on August 31.

With Kane turning 29 early next season and alternative targets becoming cheaper, the Mail report that City will not return for the Spurs forward in the summer of 2022.

Kane returned to Spurs training on Friday after quarantining for five days having returned to the UK from his extended holiday following his exploits for England at the Euros.

He was not in the matchday squad for Spurs' 1-0 victory over City on Sunday as they began the Nuno Espirito Santo era in style.

However, Kane has been named in the 25-man squad for the club's Europa Conference League play-off tie against Pacos de Ferreira of Portugal.

If he were to play in either legs of the tie it would not make him ineligible for City's Champions League campaign if he subsequently joined the Premier League champions.

So far this summer, City have made one bid for Kane worth a reported £100million but the offer was rebuffed by Spurs, with chairman Daniel Levy not budging on his £150million valuation.

This is despite Kane informing the club of his intentions to leave to win trophies at the end of last season, leading to interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea.

Real Madrid have also shown an interest in the past, but City are believed to be the forward's preferred destination.

City are on the hunt for a new striker after Sergio Aguero left on a free transfer at the end of last season following a decade at the club.

Kane is their priority target this summer, despite the club being offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus for just £25milion on Tuesday.

If City are unable to land Kane before the deadline, they will likely turn their attentions to Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next summer.

Borussia Dortmund frontman Haaland has a £67million release clause in his contract that becomes active at the end of the 2021/22 season, which is likely to start a bidding war amongst Europe's top clubs.

Mbappe's current deal with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of this season, meaning the 22-year-old Frenchman could be signed for free in the summer of 2022.
