Man City to launch new £120m Kane bid next week with Pep Guardiola ‘desperate’

Manchester City are to step up their pursuit of wantaway Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane by submitting a fresh bid for the England captain after the two clubs meet on Sunday.

City are ready to make a bid of £120million for the three-time golden boot winner after the opening round of Premier League fixtures, with Guardiola desperate for a new striker before the end of the window.

Having seen Sergio Aguero leave the club earlier in the summer after his contract expired, City have yet to bring in a new centre-forward and Guardiola fears this could cause a slow start to the season.

According to The Sun, City will reopen talks over a move for Kane after this weekend having so far been unable to agree a fee with Spurs.

A new bid worth £120million is set to be put on the table for Kane, but this remains short of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's valuation of the player.

Levy remains determined to only let the club's second leading scorer of all-time leave the club for a fee worth £160million and with three years left on Kane's contract there is no need to settle for less.

Having lost Aguero at the end of last season as he moved to Barcelona on a free transfer after a decade in Manchester, Guardiola wants a new striker before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

The Spaniard fears that without a new goal scorer, his side will once again make a slow start to the season as they did last term, lying in 11th place after the first eight matches.

Having scored 33 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions last season, Kane is City's primary target for a new striker and with the 28-year-old wanting to leave Spurs to win trophies, City are his preferred destination.

Kane is set to return to Spurs training on Friday provided he returned a negative Covid test on Thursday and is unlikely to feature on Sunday.

The Three Lions skipper was given an extended summer break following the Euros and has so far not had any pre-season training or match practice.

City began their season last weekend in the Community Shield at Wembley as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to FA Cup winners Leicester City.

New signing Jack Grealish made his debut as a second half substitute and his £100million arrival from Aston Villa is so far the only transfer business Guardiola's side have completed this window.
