Man City outcast Pedro Porro ‘up for sale’ days after hitting out at Guardiola
Manchester City are hoping to offload fullback Pedro Porro as soon as possible, according to reports in Portugal.
The 21-year-old is currently halfway through a two-year loan spell at Sporting Lisbon, who can activate a clause to sign him permanently for €8.5million.
City are keen to get this transfer over the line, in order to reduce their payroll to make room for Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, who are heavily linked with the club.
Although the payments for Porro would not begin until July 2022, the blue half of Manchester want the deal guaranteed to avoid falling foul of Financial Fair Play laws.
Porro joined City from Girona in 2019, for a fee of £11million, but has failed to make a single first team appearance.
His lack of involvement prompted him to make a tongue-in-cheek comment about Pep Guardiola not knowing who he is or that the club signed him.
Speaking to Portuguese publication A Bola, he revealed he has never even spoken to the Citizens boss.
He said: “No, I've never talked to Pep Guardiola. I don't think he even knows they hired me. But they must be aware of what I've been doing.”
Upon joining the club, the Spaniard was immediately shipped out on loan to Real Valladolid, before heading to Portugal the following season.
Should Porro have been given a chance at Manchester City? Let us know in the comments section.
Porro won defender of the month awards for November, December and January during the last campaign, playing an important part in the squad that helped Sporting lift the Primeira Liga.
His strong performances also earned him a first cap for Spain, as he appeared in a 1-2 victory over Georgia back in March.
Despite that, being behind Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo in the City ranks makes a return to the Etihad unlikely.
