Man City make initial approach to Aston Villa over Jack Grealish transfer
Aston Villa are standing firm over the future of captain Jack Grealish following Manchester City's interest in a transfer during the ongoing summer window.
The 25-year-old, who featured for Gareth Southgate's England at Euro 2020, is under contract until the summer of 2025 at Villa Park – and is said to be worth £100million.
While Villa could even offer their star player an improved contract to keep him at the club, they could be forced to consider a sale should Grealish himself fancy a new challenge.
In the latest update, City are said to have made an initial approach several days ago, and that those channels of negotiation remain open for future talks.
Sky Sports News have reported the dialog between the two clubs, with Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions also being linked with Three Lions skipper Harry Kane.
Grealish, who only signed his new deal in September, has been open about his desire to win major trophies, and came to within a shoot-out of winning Euro 2020 with England.
Whatever his stance is, Villa might well take notice should their valuation be met – which would allow them to strengthen across the board in their pursuit of European qualification.

Grealish's agent, Jonathan Barnett, told Sky Sports earlier this year: "He loves Villa but I think we just have to wait and see how things pan out.
"At the moment he is a Villa player and he has no thoughts about anything else.
"He could be a big star in the summer, he maybe should have been playing a little bit earlier for England. It is unfortunate that he has got this injury at the moment but that will be fine."
With Dean Smith saying in response: “I got told that someone from his agency had spoken about Jack.
“I’ve not risen to any speculation regarding Jack at all this season – he has been injured for the last 12 games.
“He signed a brand new contract having seen the vision for the club from the owners at the start of the season.”
