Man City issue demand to Declan Rice after Arsenal's failed offers

Manchester City are seeking assurances from Declan Rice as they prepare to compete with Arsenal in the race to sign West Ham’s captain, according to reports.

Arsenal appeared to be on course to sign Rice early in the summer transfer window, however, their two offers so far have been rejected by West Ham.

The Gunners’ latest bid, which was £75 million plus a further £15m in add-ons, still falls short of West Ham’s £100m valuation.

That has opened the door for City to make their move and the Premier League champions are ready to submit a rival offer.

However, the Sunday Mirror reports that City are looking to get a clear indication from Rice that he would be willing to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.

It’s understood that Rice’s preference has been to join Arsenal, however, that was before City’s desire to join the bidding had been made public.

Arteta, meanwhile, was asked about Arsenal’s push to sign Rice in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca this weekend.

However, the Arsenal manager was typically evasive with his response: ‘I can’t talk about players who are not in the club. I prefer not to say anything.’

However, Arteta was more open in discussing Kai Havertz, who is on the verge of joining Arsenal in a £65m deal from Chelsea.

‘Talent comes at a price, and at Arsenal we are always interested in youngsters with experience,’ Arteta said.

‘I repeat, I’m not talking about players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai he has already shown a lot, including winning a Champions League.

‘He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old.’
