Man City fans left bloodied after smashing police van and hitting riot cops
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reviews Inter Milan game
Manchester City fans were caught up in unsavoury scenes following their Champions League triumph on Saturday evening. As celebrations unfolded on the streets of Manchester, police had to intervene after a patrol van was smashed up, with some battered and bruised supporters placed in handcuffs.
City fans certainly had reason to celebrate this weekend as Pep Guardiola masterminded a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final. The victory rubber-stamped a silverware treble that matched Manchester United’s staggering accomplishment in 1999.
While many made the voyage to Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium to witness the game first-hand, others watched from home and spilled out onto the streets of Manchester to mark the occasion.
According to The Sun, Greater Manchester Police were forced to step in when celebrations got out of hand in Piccadilly Gardens.
The windscreen and blue light bar of a patrol fan were supposedly kicked in by rowdy fans, with pictures showing supporters with black eyes being taken away by authorities, while others were pinned to the ground.
City boss Guardiola got his hands on the Champions League for the first time in 12 years by leading his side to the win over Inter, with Rodri’s well-placed second-half finish proving decisive.
