Man City fans chant 'Sancho and Rashford let the country down' before Spurs game

Manchester City fans have been filmed chanting ‘Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford let the country down’ before their opening Premier League fixture against Tottenham.

The Manchester United duo both missed penalties during the Euro 2020 final shootout defeat to Italy as England missed the chance to win their first major trophy since 1966.

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka also missed from the spot but the public’s reaction to the trio has been overwhelmingly positive since last month’s final at Wembley.

Hundreds of people visited a mural of Rashford in Manchester to post messages of support after it was vandalised, and Saka received standing ovations from Tottenham and Brentford fans after featuring for the Gunners over the past week.

But some Man City fans targeted Sancho and Rashford with a chant in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium concourse ahead of Sunday’s match against Spurs, claiming the United players had ‘let their country down’.

Leeds United supporters sung the same chant before their Premier League match against Manchester United on Saturday as Sancho made his debut for the club following a £73m summer move from Borussia Dortmund.
