Man City chairman ‘restrained’ as he shares wish in response to 115 FFP charges
Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak discusses Premier League charges
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has urged critics to focus on the club’s on-pitch achievements rather than the 115 charges levelled against them by the Premier League relating to alleged financial breaches. The newly-crowned European champions recently wrapped up a historic treble but have seen their achievements widely scrutinised as a result of the damning allegations they face.
City were accused of no less than 115 breaches of financial regulations by the Premier League in February after a four-year investigation, which followed the publication of leaked emails by German outlet Der Spiegel back in 2018. Al Mubarak has since insisted that the allegations should not overshadow the recent on-pitch successes of Pep Guardiola and his players.
“We’re going through the legal process,” said Al Mubarak in his traditional end-of-season interview. “These are proceedings that take whatever time they take and when we’re done, we’ll have a conversation. I’ll give you my very blunt views, I promise you that.
“I have very strong views on that, but I am going to be unfortunately very restrained today. Of course, I mean, it’s very frustrating, because it takes so much from the great work that’s happening at this club and it’s happening not just on the football pitch.

“The football pitch, we talked about that, what these players have achieved this year, the treble, is incredible. I hope people focus and judge them for their football and what they’re achieving on the pitch and what they’re achieving in every competition they’re in.”
It remains to be seen whether anything will come of the charges levelled against City, although it seems clear that no concrete answers will be given for quite some time. The process is expected to take a number of years to reach a solid conclusion, which suggests that their critics will not be silenced until a binding verdict is eventually reached.

Al Mubarak went on to express his delight regarding the club’s recent Champions League triumph after years of falling short in Europe, with the achievement echoing their historic Premier League title win back in 2012 after a long and painful 44-year wait to clinch the domestic honours.
“It reminds me, winning this, it reminds me back to 2011/12, that QPR game, the first Premier League,” added the City chairman. “There was relief in that game and then happiness. With the Champions League, we’ve tried so hard for so many years and then to finally, finally do it, it’s relief, it’s happiness, but it’s really more relief.
“We finally have that trophy. We’re arguably one of the most consistent teams in the Champions League for the last 10 years, consistently in the group stages, consistently going forward. If you look at just the last five years: quarter-finals, quarter-finals, final, semi-finals, finals and winning, so there’s a consistency in our performances in the Champions League.”
