Man City booed off by their fans at halftime as bogey team Tottenham score twice

Manchester City were booed off by their own fans at half-time after bogey team Tottenham Hotspur scored twice in three minutes.

A pair of errors from goalkeeper Ederson allowed Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal to score in the closing stages of the first half and give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break. Referee Simon Hooper's half-time whistle was then greeted by a chorus of boos from the home fans as they showed their dissatisfaction with their side's performance.

Spurs' quick-fire double came just moments after Erling Haaland had headed over with the goal gaping as he looked to end his goal drought.

Former City defender Micah Richards was critical of the fans for booing, though, as he reflected on his old team's first half showing.

Speaking as a pundit for Sky Sports, he explained: "That’s not acceptable. City have brought joy for so many years now, they’ve won four leagues out of five, so you can’t be booing. I’m always with the fans but you can’t be booing after that."

He also added: "City, so naïve. Spurs we all know how they’re going to play – it’s going to be a mistake or it’s going to be a counter attack.

"Bentancur gets high in City’s midfield, knowing that’s the only way they’ve got to go and score a goal, and it’s sloppy play."

The boos soon turned to cheers at the start of the second half, as the champions emerged from the interval in inspired form.

Two goals in two minutes from forwards Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland levelled the score at the Etihad Stadium as City completed a rapid turnaround to cancel out Spurs' lead. Riyadh Mahrez then completed the comeback by putting City in front 10 minutes later.

A win for Guardiola's side would see City cut the gap to league leaders Arsenal to five points, although the Gunners will have a game in hand ahead of their title showdown with City next month.
