Luke Shaw has admitted Manchester United’s performance was ‘not good enough’ following their embarrassing 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Liverpool cruised to victory against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who offered very little throughout the entirety of the match.
Naby Keita opened the scoring for Liverpool after a perfect through ball from Mohamed Salah, before Diogo Jota got on the end of Trent Alexander Arnold’s low cross to make it 2-0 inside 14 minutes.
Salah got on the scoresheet himself in the 39th minute, before helping himself to another in first-half stoppage time to effectively end the game as a contest.
The Egyptian then completed his hat-trick five minutes into the second-half goal when he latched onto a ball from Jordan Henderson and struck it into the corner of David De Gea’s net.
Liverpool were impressive throughout but the general feeling was that Jurgen Klopp’s side still had another gear to reach, with Man United’s backline paying a heavy price for their lack of organisation.

Speaking after the game, England international Shaw was far from pleased with United’s display at Old Trafford.
“It’s not good enough,” he said. “Especially the defence.
“It’s our job, we need to reflect then move on. We could see it coming. I need to look at myself in the mirror.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described the defeat as his ‘darkest day’ as United boss, adding that it will be difficult to raise morale within the dressing room.

“It is going to be a difficult one. The players will be low but there’s loads of characters there,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“It is not easy to say something apart from it is the darkest day I have had leading these players.
“We were not good enough individually and as a team – you can’t give a team like Liverpool those chances, but unfortunately we did.
“The whole performance was not good enough. We created openings, they had chances and they have been clinical. The third goal decided the game.”
However, the United boss insisted he won’t give up as his side aim to bounce back from the drubbing suffered at the hands of their rivals.
“We know we are rock bottom, we can’t feel any worse than this. Let’s see where we take it,” he told Sky Sports.
“I have come too far, we have come too far as a group. We are too close to give up now.”
The result leaves United in seventh with 14 points from their opening nine league games.
Meanwhile, Klopp’s side remain unbeaten and are up to second in the table with 21 points, only one point adrift of leaders Chelsea.
The Red Devils will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Tottenham, who they face next Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
