Luke Shaw has broken the record for the fastest goal in a European Championship final after giving England the lead against Italy in the final of Euro 2020.
Shaw has been one of England's standout stars throughout the tournament, but few expected him to pop up and give the Three Lions the lead in the final, let alone inside two minutes.
The 25-year-old opened the scoring with just one minute and fifty seconds on the clock, slamming home an expert cross from Kieran Trippier, who had been recalled to the startling line-up by Gareth Southgate.
BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas said: "What a brilliant goal that is!
"You can see here, he started the move Luke Shaw with some real composure, the ball from Harry Kane was crisp, but the pick out from Trippier to his opposite side is right on the money.
"He has just got to hit the target, he hits it down into the ground and there is nothing Donnarumma can do about that."
Fans on Twitter were equally as astonished at England's surprise goalscorer.
One supporter wrote: "Shaw’s rise is nothing short of remarkable. The composure there was incredible."
While another said: "Can’t believe it, I’m dreaming because Luke Shaw as just scored. I’ll wake up soon."
A third person added: "I can’t believe it yes Shaw it’s defo coming Home."
Shaw's goal was his first for England in his 16th international appearance.
He is the first person to score for the Three Lions in the final of a major tournament since Geoff Hurst in 1966.
