Lukaku up for grabs for Premier League clubs with ex-Man Utd man set to move
Prolific Romelu Lukaku could be up for grabs this summer as Inter Milan look to balance their books.
As with the whole of the football world, the COVID-19 outbreak has hit the Italian club’s finances hard.
That’s why they are so keen to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero on a free transfer in June.
And if they pull off that deal, Inter will listen to offers for either Lukaku or attacking partner Lautaro Martinez.
That news has put a host of elite European clubs on alert with the ex-Manchester United and Chelsea man Lukaku seen as a potential blockbuster signing.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German are strong possibilities but Premier League pair Man City and Chelsea – one of Lukaku’s former clubs – are also watching developments.
Lukaku, 27, has been a massive hit in Italy, scoring 42 times in 62 league games for Inter, who are currently on course to secure their first Serie A title since 2010.
And his record on the international stage is equally impressive. His penalty in Belgium’s 3-1 victory over Wales in midweek made it 58 goals in 90 appearances for FIFA’s top-ranked country.
With many now regarding him at his peak, Lukaku, who cost Inter £80milliion from Man United two years ago, would fetch nearer £100m this time.
Whether that massive fee proves a stumbling block to his exit remains to be seen but, if it does, then Inter will instead look to cash in on Martinez.
The Argentine forward, 23, has been in sensational form this campaign, rattling 15 goals in 37 appearances.
He may well be viewed as better value for money – at nearer £50m – and Inter know there will be an even longer queue for his signature than that of Lukaku.
At that price, the majority of the Premier League's big hitters will be in hunt, along with the usual suspects on the continent.
