Lukaku blocks certain Inter goal as ‘world-class defending’ helps Man City win
Football fans ironically praised Romelu Lukaku's 'world class defending' after he inadvertently blocked his own teammate's goal-bound effort.
At the time, City had just taken the lead in the Champions League final through Rodri's cool, first time finish. In need of an immediate response, the Italian giants piled forward and got bodies into the box.
After the ball was looped back into the penalty area, the ball bounced kindly for Inter ace Federico Dimarco. He sensed Ederson off his line, stooped down low and exploded back up to send a clever, lobbed header over the Brazilian.
The ball bounced off the top of the crossbar, but fell right back to the Italian, who immediately reacted by sending a diving header back towards the goal. Inter had levelled – or so they thought.

Dimarco looked certain to score when the ball slowly bobbed towards him. Unfortunately, his diving header was blocked by the Chelsea loanee – not that he realised what he had done.
It would be extremely harsh to blame the Belgian for blocking the ball on the line. The bizarre situation was a typical example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, that has not stopped the football world from poking fun at the ex-Manchester United rival.

"HUGE block from Lukaku to deny Di Marco. World class defending," one very cheeky supporter said. "Can’t trust Lukaku to get anything right," one United fan added.
"Reminds me of a save by Dudek," laughed another football fan, remarking on Jerzy Dudek's legendary save from Andriy Shevchenko when Liverpool overcame AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final.
To make matters even worse, Lukaku missed the perfect opportunity to equalise and make up for his error. A long, diagonal ball was flicked back across goal for Lukaku, who was only three yards on goal.
However, his point blank header was straight at Ederson, who reacted quickly to divert his effort away from goal. It certainly was not Lukaku's evening.
