Luis Suarez will reportedly make a decision this week on where he goes next in the latest instalment of his club career.

The 35-year-old striker is considering his options after the World Cup with Uruguay, which quite literally ended in tears for him when his team were knocked out at the group stage in Qatar.

Now, Suarez is weighing up his next move having previously returned to boyhood team Nacional in the buildup to Qatar. He has two main options – Cruz Azul in Mexico and Gremio in Brazil.

It appeared Cruz Azul was the frontrunner but now Gremio is hoping to steal his signature at the final moment.

Paulo Caleffi, Gremio’s vice-president, was quoted by FOX Sports as saying: ‘We are going to have a conversation with the player’s staff.

‘Although several situations have been published, this definitive conversation has not yet occurred. What happened were some signs. The conversation will be this week.

‘What I can make clear to Gremio fans, also because of the responsibility we have in handling this, not to let it become a soap opera, as happened a while ago with another Uruguayan player, is that this situation will have a conclusion this week, either on one side or the other.’

Caleffi was referring to his team coming close to signing Edinson Cavani, before he eventually signed for Spanish side Valencia.

Speaking in October, before the World Cup, Suarez spoke up the prospects of playing in Major League Soccer.

‘It’s one of the options that I see as being most likely, but I’m not thinking about that right now. I’m thinking about and enjoying myself at Nacional,’ Suarez said.

The 35-year-old Suarez was playing with Nacional back in Uruguay in the build-up to Qatar

‘I’ve had my career in Europe and I left very proud. I had a lot of options, a lot of them, before coming to Nacional, but it made sense to come back.

‘Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, Atletico… what would be a better career in Europe than that? It was perfect.’

Suarez won four Spanish league titles and the Champions League with Barcelona, and an English League cup with Liverpool.
