Lovren mocked as Croatia horror show contradicts his ‘best in the world’ claim
Dejan Lovren came in for some brutal mocking after his horror show as Croatia were held to a draw by Czech Republic at Euro 2020, with a few even laughing at his old claim of being "one of the best defenders in the world".
In the other game ahead in Group D ahead of England vs Scotland, a 1-1 draw played out at Hampden Park as Croatia and Czech Republic could not be split.
It was the latter that took the lead though, in a highly controversial fashion.
The Czech's were perhaps a little lucky to receive a penalty after Lovren and Patrik Schick both jumped for a header.
Schick's head could only find Lovren's elbow though, as he was left bloodied by the aerial battle.
There was a serious case to be made for the elbow being accidental, but that was not how referee Carlos del Cerro Grande saw it after consulting the VAR monitor.
Schick tucked away the resulting penalty, with Czech Republic going into half-time with a 1-0 lead.
