Liverpool stars Trent Alexander Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Harvey Elliott are busy trying to salvage their Premier League season – and now they face another ageing institution that dominates its rivals every year.
No, not Real Madrid in the Champions League but the might of the High Street store John Lewis in the Christmas TV ad wars – after the trio were signed up by JD Sports for their festive video.
And – unlike last season's CL final – the lads appear to have come out on top with its streetwise YouTube viewers – one of whom raved: "F**k John Lewis, this is our Xmas ad!"
Leicester City's James Maddison and Chelsea's Thiago Silva also make their JD debuts in the commercial which takes place in a fantasy amusement arcade – filled with sneakers.

Another wrote of the 'King of Game' ad: "JD – always has the most GOATED Christmas ads."
But the High St sports chain has definitely thrown the kitchen sink at the crimbo ad signing up more talent than Nottingham Forest this season.
Sidemen's KSI joins the Prem stars along with another massive YouTuber Chunkz – showing just how influential the social media superstars have become.
Former World Heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua also gets in on the act as does England's Euro 2022 winners Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly – a sign that women ballers could now start landing huge sponsorship deals.
The John Lewis TV ads are an annual pre-Christmas event for the English middle classes to get excited about – and it appears JD Sports and Sports Direct have decided to take a leaf out of their book.
Sports Direct has signed up the likes Arsenal's Jesus, Chelsea's Mason Mount and West Ham's Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen to shift their Lonsdale and Donnay tracksuits this winter.
While JD have also tapped into the Grime music scene. One of the godfathers of the genre – Kano – makes an appearance while his track 'Ps and Qs' soundtracks the two minute video.
And the JD telly spot appears to have triumphed. Although we haven't actually seen John Lewis's yet – or Morrisons.
One YouTuber poster wrote: "Credit to JD they always craft a dope Christmas advert and Kano was the icing on the cake with his 'this is it big man, you ready?' finale."
The film tells the story of the lad – played by Cole Wealleans-Watts from CBBC's The Dumping Ground – visiting his local shopping centre. Chunkz then shows him a secret entrance to the star-studded amusement arcade where AJ soon makes an appearance.
Nadia Kokni, a JD Sports Marketing Director, said the sportswear giant are "reinforcing JD’s position as undisputed at Christmas” with this year's campaign.
She said: "This year’s cast list demonstrates that JD takes pride in supporting talent who are pushing boundaries and hustling to be at the top of their game."
However the young talent on show seems to have gone some people's heads.
This YouTube watcher admitted: "Being an old git of 58 I guess I'm not the demographic this is aimed at, I know none of these people in the ad but looks like a good time was had by all!"
