Liverpool are reportedly showing an interest in signing Sander Berge from relegation-threatened Sheffield United and it could affect the futures of four players at Anfield. With Chris Wilder leaving his post at Bramall Lane last week, Sheffield United appear to be getting ready for life back in the Championship.
It’s been quite a ride for the Blades in the Premier League, taking the top flight by storm last year.
Midway through that impressive campaign, they took everyone by surprise in winning the race to sign Berge.
The Norwegian midfielder was reportedly on the radar on a number of top teams around Europe, but United stumped up £22million to sign the 23-year-old.
But with the Blades expected to drop down a division, Berge looks set to leave in the summer transfer window.

And, according to Eurosport, Liverpool have identified Berge as a potential cut-price target.
Berge is one of the club’s top earners at Sheffield United and they may look to cash in this summer.
It is claimed that Aston Villa are also monitoring a move for the midfielder, who has been out injured since December with an injury.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly hoping to make some changes to his squad and it appears the central midfield positions is a priority.
DON’T MISS
The report hints that Liverpool’s interest in Berge could be a sign that they expect Georginio Wijnaldum to leave.
But they may also look to offload three players who face uncertain futures at the club.
Marko Grujic has spent the last three seasons out on loan with reports emerging last summer that they were looking for offers of around £20million.
He ended up heading out on loan again, this time to Porto, but he’s struggled to make a huge impact in Portugal and Berge’s possible arrival at Liverpool would push him further down the pecking order.
Another young player out on loan who looks set to leave on a permanent basis this summer is Ben Woodburn.
He had his loan spell at Blackpool cut short in January but if Liverpool are still looking to sign midfielders in the summer then the 21-year-old may find it tough to break into Klopp’s plans next year.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also found it tough to find regular football at Liverpool this season since returning from injury.
He’s started just two Premier League games so far and is seemingly behind the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones in the pecking order.
If Liverpool push ahead with plans to sign Berge, then Oxlade-Chamberlain’s role may diminish even further.
