Liverpool’s ‘£70million transfer target’ is allegedly only earning £3,500-a-week

Liverpool's "£70million transfer target" is allegedly only earning £3,500-per-week at his current club.

The Reds are understood to be amongst the clubs keen on signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo during the January transfer window. Despite the Seagulls' slapping an eye-watering price tag on the 21-year-old, he is reportedly the lowest paid player in the current first team squad, according to Spotrac.

His wages are said to have not changed since he signed for Brighton from Independiete del Valle in his native native Ecuador back in 2021, meaning he is still supposedly paid just £3,500 each week.

Caicedo has not signed a new deal since arriving in England, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2025 reportedly worth a total of £182,000-a-year.

That could soon change, though, with the midfielder starring in the middle of the park for both club and country in 2022. Since returning from a loan spell at Beerschot in January, Caicedo has developed into a key man at the Amex.

He now has 27 senior appearances for Brighton, as well as two goals and two assists in those matches. Caicedo also starred for Ecuador at the recent World Cup in Qatar.

Although they were eliminated at the group stage, he appeared in all three of their matches and scored in the final fixture against Ecuador.

Those performances have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool joined by both Newcastle United and Chelsea in being linked with a move in recent weeks.

Manchester United were also understood to be interested in signing Caicedo during the summer but were unable to complete the transfer.

According to the Express, it would take more than £60million for Brighton to part company with Caicedo during the January transfer window, with other reports claiming Liverpool have already had a bid knocked back.

Jurgen Klopp has previously identified his midfield as an area for additions, having failed to sign a player in the position during the previous window. Loanee Arthur Melo also remains sidelined with injury, limiting the depth in Liverpool's midfield.
