Liverpool transfer round-up as Reds join race for West Ham’s Declan Rice
Liverpool could become the latest side to join the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.
Rivals Chelsea and Manchester United have both been heavily linked with the England international.
The Reds could be in the market for a midfielder should Georginio Wijnaldum seek pastures new.
His contract is winding down and he is yet to sign an extension as rumours continues to swirl of a move to Barcelona.
Jurgen Klopp has not yet added any new faces this month and has said that any decisions on new signings are above his head.
They continue to see their options stretched, but may have to work with them until the summer.
Here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Anfield.
Liverpool join Rice race
Liverpool have shortlisted Declan Rice ahead of the summer transfer window, claims Eurosport.
The West Ham midfielder is not short of admirers with Chelsea and Man Utd also linked.
Rice was at the Blues as a kid before they released him and they have a long standing interest but Liverpool could be in the market for a midfielder.
Wijnaldum could move on in the summer meaning they may be seeking reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Rice has made himself a regular at international level and looks ready to step up should West Ham cash in.
No Gini move to Barca in Jan
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman admits the club's financial situation means no money will be spent this month.
Wijnaldum is linked with a switch to the Nou Camp in the summer, but Koeman has all but ruled out an early move for his compatriot.
"My position is known: we lack people, but the economic situation of the club is an influence," he said.
"I think we all think the same. If no one arrives, I accept it and we continue the same, but if we want more we must sign."
Asked about the decision of the club's hierarchy to block a move for Garcia in January, Koeman replied: "We cannot demand that the Management Board make decisions like this.
"We have concluded that if he is a player whose contract is ending, we must wait."
VVD deal close
Virgil van Dijk could soon be handed a new deal shortly with talks ongoing, according to Eurosport.
An agreement has reportedly been reached between player and club and it will be revisited in several weeks as the defender's rehab continues.
He has been missing for most of the season which has served to underline his importance to Liverpool.
Van Dijk is still on the same terms as he was when he signed for £75m in 2017 with his deal having two years to run.
