Liverpool transfer round-up as Reds join Bellingham race but dealt Torres blow
After a disappointing season which has seen them surrender their Premier League title and crash out of the Champions League, Liverpool are set to be active in the summer transfer window.
Injuries to key players such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson has exposed the lack of depth in Jurgen Klopp ’s squad.
With back-ups to those key players failing to impress and signings such as Thiago not kicking on, Liverpool will again need to dip into the transfer market.
A striker, midfielder and centre-back are all on the Reds transfer target list, with Klopp’s squad requiring reinforcements.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news…
Liverpool join Bellingham race
Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign highly-rated Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham has impressed since joining the Bundesliga side from Birmingham, scoring in Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old’s form has attracted several suitors, with Eurosport now reporting that Liverpool are one of them.
Reds dealt Torres blow
Centre-back is one of the areas Liverpool are believed to be prioritising this summer, but they have been handed a blow in their pursuit of one of their targets.
That target is Pau Torres who has impressed in defence for Villarreal as Unai Emery’s side have reached the Europa League semi-finals.
But the Reds have now been told to focus on other targets by Emery, who insists that only two clubs will be able to sign the Spaniard.
“Pau Torres? Double (the pride), because he’s also from here. If he leaves here, he has to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona,” he told Radio Marca.
Correa boost received
While their pursuit of Pau Torres has been dealt a blow, the Reds have received a welcome boost in the race to sign Joaquin Correa.
The striker is believed to be keen to move on from Lazio, with Liverpool enquiring about a possible move for him.
And Il Messaggero report that the Reds could sign him for just half of his £80million release fee, with cash-strapped Lazio desperate for funds.
