Liverpool are ready to ramp up their efforts to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. The Reds are yet to bring a midfielder in during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool are set to switch their attentions to Guido Rodriguez this summer as they look to replace Wijnaldum.
And he could be available for as cheap as £25m this summer despite a brilliant season with Real Betis.
But after losing Wijnaldum for nothing at the end of last campaign, the Reds are on the hunt for a cheap replacement.
Jurgen Klopp has lost a key member of his squad through the Dutchman, who made a last-minute decision to ditch Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain.
Only Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson played more minutes than Wijnaldum, leaving the Liverpool manager with a real problem.
There have been several targets who have been linked to fill the midfielder’s shoes, including Florian Neuhaus, Yves Bissouma and Saul Niguez.
However, Liverpool are ready to switch their focus to Rodriguez, according to La Razon via Sport Witness.
The Argentina international, who helped his country win the Copa America this summer, has a release clause of €80m.
But the report states that Manuel Pellegrini could accept a bid as low as €30m as the club look to bolster their funds.
The 27-year-old had a fine campaign and has been chased by a number of teams, including Arsenal.
Betis have their own transfer ambitions, including bringing in Lyanco as a replacement to Aissa Mandi.
It means they might have to sell their best assets with Rodriguez potentially on the transfer list.
Meanwhile, Klopp has insisted that his side must improve with their attacking output head of the new season.
He said: “It is clear we have to improve, we have to improve offensively as well. But from a formation point of view – how compact the formation is and so on – we have some space [to improve], but that’s always the same. When I look back at the years, it was always learning defending again, like pressing again, is as much to do with timing. Timing has to do with a clear brain and fresh legs, but you never have [them] – fresh legs especially – in the pre-season.
“It is pretty much not possible, but you still want it. In training it looks good and when we don’t do it for 45 minutes, just like two or three or four minutes, and really adjust in the right way then it looks good and so I am happy with it, we have to just make sure we get the right mindset for the first game because that’s the biggest difference – it’s not a pre-season friendly anymore, we have to go with all we have.
“We only do all of these things because we want to win football games – we want to win many football games – and win something special.”
