Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was faced with another potential injury blow on Tuesday evening as Divock Origi was forced off with an apparent knock during Belgium’s clash against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium. The 26-year-old appears to be the latest Reds star to pick up an issue on international duty after Andy Robertson and Jordan Henderson were hit with separate problems earlier this month.

Robertson limped off during Scotland’s win over Denmark on Monday evening, while Henderson was sent home from England duty last week after suffering a minor injury in training.

Origi appears to have joined Liverpool’s growing list of injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s crunch Premier League meeting with Arsenal.

He was selected to start in attack for Belgium alongside Charles de Ketelaere for their trip to Wales, with Kevin De Bruyne handing the visitors an early lead after just 12 minutes.

Kieffer Moore went on to equalise as half-time approached before Origi was replaced by Dante Vanzeir on the hour mark after suffering what looked to be an unfortunate ankle injury.

It remains to be seen whether the Liverpool striker will be fit to face Arsenal on Saturday, with the Reds set to be missing a selection of key players.

Naby Keita will remain sidelined for this weekend’s clash after he was stretchered off during Liverpool’s big win over Manchester United last month.

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones will be unavailable as he continues his recovery from an eye injury picked up before the international break.

Reds doctor Jim Moxon has explained that caution will need to be exercised to ensure that Jones heals quickly and without any lasting damage.

“It’s a freak injury and very unlucky, but the important thing to emphasise is there is no lasting damage and his vision won’t be impacted beyond the recovery period,” Moxon told the club website.

“However, the nature of the issue means caution is important; we need to allow it time to heal and we can’t rush it, therefore it won’t be a speedy return.

“It needs to mend before we are able to reintroduce Curtis to full training, but there are things he can do in the meantime to maintain fitness.

“We can’t put a specific timescale on a return beyond it will be a number of weeks from now as it heals naturally, so it’s not one we will risk and patience is a virtue with this specific recovery.”
