Liverpool still keen on Adama Traore deal with Wolves ‘ready to sell in January’

Liverpool could be forced to battle Barcelona to the signing of Spain international Adama Traore in the January transfer window as Wolves consider their options.

Bruno Lage's side are said to be 'not close' to agreeing an extension with the 25-year-old, who is under contract at Molineux until the summer of 2023.

Traore, who has played as both a winger and wing-back in recent seasons, has made 113 Premier League appearances since leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves, scoring seven goals.

Although he could be tempted by a move to Jurgen Klopp's title challengers, Traore might eye a return to Barcelona where he was a player between 2004 and 2015.

90MIN report that Traore and Wolves are not close to agreeing a new deal, and that the club are now ready to listen to offers during the upcoming January transfer window.

The report adds that Liverpool are still keen having been linked with Traore in the past, but that Barcelona have now emerged as suitors with Xavi looking to sign a winger.

Wolves were said to have an asking price of £40million in recent windows, with Liverpool having a valuation of less than £30million.

Having featured in 37 Premier League fixtures in each of the last two full seasons, there has been an overhaul at the club of late following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Klopp has made no secret of his admiration for Traore in the past, and could eye a back-up for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with Diogo Jota battling Roberto Firmino.

Klopp said after Liverpool took on Wolves last season: "The speed of Traore is actually undefendable in moments."

While defending his decision not to start Traore in their recent 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Lage insisted that his contract situation is not influencing selection.

He said: "That is the question every time. When you look for the starting team we want, every time we have to take decisions.

"We play with Adama also against Leeds and we don't have the chances to go in the transition. OK, I understand your question and for sure we think about it."
