Liverpool ‘starting 1-0 down’ as ref confirmed for Man City Premier League clash
Liverpool fans have fumed they're "starting 1-0 down" after Anthony Taylor was named the referee for their clash with Manchester City.
The struggling Reds welcome high-flying City to Anfield on Sunday (October 16) for a 4.30pm kick-off in the Premier League, with the experienced Taylor confirmed as the official taking charge today ahead of the weekend.
Having been born in Wythenshawe in Manchester, Taylor is often accused of being biased by opposition fans when their sides face City or United. And Liverpool supporters were quick to make their feelings known once again.

One tweeted: "Starting 1-0 down then." Another wrote: "Sounds about right. Manchester-based ref. Reffing a Manchester team in a big football game."
"Staggering," commented a third, while a fourth joked: "It’s a bit like Simon Cowell's son going on X Factor. The plum could juggle one egg and get through."
Another argued: "No Manc ref should be anywhere near a match involving either City or Utd." And one replied: "It’s just laughable at this point."

City fans hit back, though, with one claiming: "His family are all Utd season ticket holders, so he’s unlikely to be doing either of us any favours!" A second joked: "Excuse FC are off already…"
One pointed out: "He reffed our game in April and Thiago and Fabinho both got away with terrible challenges lol." And another echoed: "He was literally ref in April when you got away with two reds and Sterling was wrongly given offside."
The contest is already getting heated but both Liverpool and City have got Champions League commitments to focus on first. Jurgen Klopp's side travel to face Rangers tomorrow, while City are away to Copenhagen tonight.
