Liverpool star Stefan Bajcetic can prove Jurgen Klopp wrong in transfer concern
Stefan Bajcetic may want to take note of Jurgen Klopp’s comments on Liverpool lacking a ‘proven No 6’ as the Spaniard will want to prove himself to fill that role in the coming months. Liverpool are going through major changes in midfield with Fabinho following Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita out the door.
Klopp was dealing with a bloated midfield department last season and the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have helped settle things back down to a more manageable number. Still, one more midfield signing is wanted with Klopp eyeing a move for Romeo Lavia as the man to fill Fabinho’s shoes.
The Brazilian made the No 6 role in front of the defence his own in the five seasons he spent at Anfield. But change is needed with Lavia seen as the man who can fill that role on a more regular basis.
However, Bajcetic will certainly fancy his chances of making the position his own when he returns from injury. The Spaniard is only a few months younger than Lavia and, while he’s not played as many minutes in the Premier League, he does have experience in the Champions League.
Klopp’s main concern in that area of the pitch appears to be that Liverpool lack a ‘proven No 6’. “It’s no secret that we’re still looking for new players to join us,” he said.
“That’s one thing but the other thing is using what you have. A proven No 6 is not available [in the squad] in this moment.”
Signing Lavia arguably doesn’t fill that void either with Lavia just 19 years of age, but Bajcetic can change Klopp’s view this upcoming season. The Liverpool boss may well have to rely upon the teenager if a more experienced midfielder isn’t signed.

Thiago Alcantara is now the only midfielder in Klopp’s squad over the age of 24 as Liverpool begin planning for the future. Finding that balance of experience and youth has long been the secret to success in football.
Klopp may well be hinting that he wants the club to bring in another experienced midfielder to help balance things out if Lavia is signed. Bajcetic is still recovering from the injury that ruled him out at the end of last season and is playing catch up in pre-season this summer.
But the Spaniard is closing in on a return and he’ll have his eye on returning to Klopp’s starting line-up. The likes of Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah were left hugely impressed by Bajcetic’s emergence earlier this year.
And the midfielder will be hoping he’s done enough over the past few months to prove to Klopp that his talent can outweigh experience.
