Liverpool star Nunez shouts ‘f*** you’ at Newcastle after dramatic late winner

Darwin Nunez was spotted appearing to shout expletives at the Newcastle United bench following Liverpool's last-gasp winner on Wednesday evening (August 31).

Jurgen Klopp's side recorded a second successive Premier League victory thanks to Fabio Carvalho's late winner. New Toon forward Alexander Isak, who this week joined from Real Sociedad for £58million, handed the away side the advantage by rifling the ball in at the near post before Roberto Firmino levelled the scores with an inch-perfect finish into the corner.

In a highly-frustrating contest, Newcastle's time-wasting antics enraged the Anfield crowd and the match was seemingly headed for a draw.

However, Newcastle's gamesmanship came back to haunt them in the 98th minute when Carvalho crashed in the winner off the underside of the crossbar, despite only five minutes of stoppage time being signalled by fourth official David Coote.

The last-gasp winner sparked a heated coming-together in the dugout between both sets of staff and players in which Nunez is alleged to have "shouted f*** you" in the direction of the away bench.

Liverpool's summer signing was serving the final game of his three-match ban after throwing his head towards Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen in their 1-1 draw but, due to the volume of the clip, the exact wording of Nunez's outburst is far from certain.

Elsewhere, Reds legend Jamie Carragher was quick to slam the tactics from Eddie Howe's side, tweeting: "That’s Karma that for all the time wasting! Harvey Elliott outstanding & brilliant cameo again from Carvalho!!"

Though the Newcastle manager was left baffled by Andre Marriner's willingness to let the game roll on past the 95th minute mark. "I would need someone else to guide me [why Marriner played up until the 98th minute]," said Howe.

"As I am sat here, I have no idea. It seemed the final whistle would never come but we needed to defend the final situation better than we did. It is a cruel game.

"Compared to the game at Anfield last year, we were in it more. We didn’t intend to drop deep, we didn’t until the latter minutes. We defended well. You have to take into account that we had a day’s less preparation. Our players emptied their tank."
