Liverpool star Mohamed Salah must put the disappointment of losing the Africa Cup of Nations Final behind him and perform for his club, according to former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley. Salah is set to be in the Liverpool squad for Thursday’s visit of Leicester in the Premier League. And Burley says Jurgen Klopp must start the forward.
Salah was part of the Egypt side who lost to Senegal in last Sunday’s final in Cameroon.
Klopp says the defeat is weighing heavily on the mind of the 29-year-old.
But Burley says Liverpool need Salah at his best if they are to close the 12-point gap on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
And he reckons throwing him straight into the starting XI against Leicester is the right idea.

Burley told ESPN: “I do [start him], yes, and I say ‘let’s go out there and normal service resumed, put the final aside, put disappointments to the side and brush yourself down and get on with it’.
“Life’s full of disappointments, it’s about business now.
“And the quicker he gets back to business in front of the Kop at Anfield and back on form and back scoring goals, the better.
“There’s no time for feeling sorry for yourself, it’s a game of football. They lost.

“His club are his employers. Yeah it’s not easy and you’re flying and you’re travelling and all that.
“I think if he doesn’t play it will be more for fatigue reasons than mental reasons, for me.
“But all things being equal, I get him back in the side because this is another big game for Liverpool.
“Liverpool can ill afford many, if any, slip ups in their quest to chase down Man City in the Premier League.
“Liverpool have to be on the money and to be on the money, you have to play your best players.”
Klopp admitted at his press conference on Wednesday that Salah has been affected by Egypt’s defeat but hoped for improvement in his top scorer’s mindset leading up to the Leicester clash.
“He’s very disappointed, it was a massive thing,” said Klopp.
“Losing a final is always really hard, I can sing that song, but losing the way they did was especially hard. He is happy to be back but is disappointed as well, massively so.
“We spoke about the tournament. He will deal with that of course. I hope today [Wednesday] will already be better but yesterday everyone could see he has the final on his mind.
“Is there greater determination for Mo? I am not sure that is human. I don’t think there’s a lot of space for more determination in Mo’s mind. He will benefit off it and we will benefit off it.”
