Liverpool star Harvey Elliott trying to seal exciting signing for Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool's 10 most expensive signings

Harvey Elliott is seemingly trying to tempt his England under-21 teammate Levi Colwill into joining Liverpool this summer. The 20-year-old defender’s future remains uncertain at Chelsea as he looks to discuss his next steps with new boss Mauricio Pochettino in the coming weeks.

Elliott and Colwill have both played key parts in England’s stellar European Under-21 Championship campaign and are likely to start in the final against Spain on Saturday. Ahead of the big game, Colwill uploaded a picture to his Instagram of him lining up for the Young Lions with the caption: “One last push! Onto the final.”

As Reds fans begged Colwill to join Liverpool in the comment section below, Elliott chimed in with a comment which has since been deleted. It read: “Let’s have a chat,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.

The cheeky remark comes at a time where there is rampant speculation as to whether Colwill will be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer. Liverpool remain interested in acquiring the young star’s services even though the Blues do not want to sell and are closely monitoring his situation with his boyhood club.

The Reds are in need of a new centre-back to bolster their defensive line and have been linked to Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio. But it is understood that Jurgen Klopp would love to bring Colwill to Merseyside.

However, Pochettino is understood to be keen to keep hold of academy graduate Colwill. The Blues manager is set to hold face-to-face talks with him once the he returns from the Euros and wants to pin him down on a new long-term deal.

When asked about transfer speculation surrounding him, Colwill said: “I’m not someone to predict the future. I take it day by day, but it’s been an amazing journey.‌ Who knows, we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Colwill impressed massively during his loan spell at Brighton last season. So much so, that Gareth Southgate invited him to train with the England senior team ahead of the Under-21 Euros.  “Going up and training with them is one thing, but I’ve got to keep up my performances next season,” he added.

“I need to play. I need to do well. There are so many things that come into you going back there. I don’t think it’s a case of, ‘I’m close now, I might go up on the next camp’.”
