Liverpool star Andy Robertson a doubt for Premier League opener before scan
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson will undergo a scan on his ankle on Monday after limping off during their friendly against Athletic Club at Anfield on Sunday.
The Scotland international would've been looking forward to playing alongside Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in defence following their lengthy lay-offs – but he is now facing one of his own.
The 27-year-old hobbled off the pitch before the break after twisting his ankle while trying to prevent a cross from Alex Berenguer with Diogo Jota's opener later cancelled out by Alejandro Berenguer Remiro.
Jurgen Klopp has refused to speculate over the seriousness of the injury as their await the results of scans which will take place before the final friendly of the summer against Osasuna on Monday.
Klopp told his post-match press conference: “We obviously don’t know in the moment how serious it is.
"It was pretty painful and that’s why Andy went off. You probably saw it on the TV pictures better than we did, but he got the ball, the ball on the front of his foot, [and] twisted the ankle.
“The pain settled already, but we cannot say anything further without further assessment tomorrow. He has to get a scan and then we will know more.”

Alongside a photo of himself being helped off the pitch by two members of the medical team, Robertson was upbeat in his caption despite the worrying end to his pre-season.
He wrote: "Your support today was amazing! Thank you for all your messages, I’m positive but let’s see what tomorrow brings!"
Since joining Liverpool from Hull back in 2017, the Champions League and Premier League winning defender has managed to avoid any major injuries unlike his defensive colleagues.
Klopp said of his squad strength on Sunday: "I’m very happy with the squad. That doesn’t mean we don’t look at the market. But as long as nothing happens, I’m more than happy with the squad I have, more than happy with the players I have.
"We have so many things which you can’t sign: you cannot sign pressing, you cannot sign counter-pressing, you cannot sign atmosphere, you cannot sign togetherness, you can’t sign the atmosphere we can create in the stadium, you can’t sign Anfield, you can’t sign our anthem, you can’t sign a lot of things.
"And that’s what we have to use obviously. There are different approaches obviously out there and we have no influence on that. Our situation is like it is. We have a big squad and there might still something happen until the end of the transfer window but I can’t say anything about that in the moment."
