Liverpool set to name strong XI in Europa League despite two players missing
Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara were not present in their side’s open training session at AXA ahead of the Reds’ match against LASK on Thursday night. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side get their Europa League campaign underway in comfortable fashion against the Austrian side. So much so, that squad rotation does not appear to be on the cards.
Following their hard-fought win against Wolves over the weekend, many expected the Reds to rest some of their star performers for the trip to Austria, knowing that a tough match against West Ham then awaits at the weekend.
Some players stars are certain to feature, given that Thiago and Alexander-Arnold both were not in attendance, though Klopp has insisted in the run-up to the match that he must field a side capable of getting the three points.
The prospect of starting youngsters was also sounded out to the German boss, and his response – where he highlighted that inexperienced players may feature if they have proven they are good enough – plus the group that trained on Wednesday has suggested the Liverpool line-up could be close to full strength.
Jurgen Klopp must decide whether he needs to field his strongest players against LASK.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara have both been ruled out of Thursday night’s fixture and consequently trained independent of the first-team on Wednesday. They are both recovering from injuries.
Caoimhin Kelleher will be hoping to make his first start of the season, replacing Alisson between the sticks.
Stefan Bajcetic has not featured since March, and he could return to the starting line-up in Austria. He has been an unused substitute in every match so far this season.
Joe Gomez is likely to slot into right-back once more, as he did at Wolves at the weekend, in the absence of the injured Alexander-Arnold.
