Liverpool send six players home from pre-season training camp in Austria

Liverpool have allowed six of their players to depart their pre-season training camp in Austria and return to Merseyside to continue their preparations for the new campaign.

The decision comes as the Reds' contingent is bolstered by the arrivals of Brazilian trio Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho after their extended breaks following the Copa America.

Jordan Henderson is the only first-team squad member not in Austria and the club captain is not due to return for pre-season until after Jurgen Klopp's side return to the UK.

Thiago Alcantara is in Austria but not training with the rest of the squad, whilst a number of promising youngsters remain in the camp.

Goalkeeper Harvey Davies and Polish left winger Mateusz Musialowski, both 17, have left the club's Austrian base to return to Kirkby, the pair are both members of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's under-18 side.

They are joined in returning to England with a quartet of under-23 squad members, including French centre-back Billy Koumetio and 19-year-old central midfielder Jake Cain, who have both made their senior competitive debuts for the club.

Northern Ireland international right-back Conor Bradley and fellow 18-year-old Tyler Morton complete the group that has left the Salzburg base.

Their remains a number of promising youngsters within the group as they travel to the French town of Evian for the final leg of their pre-season tour and a pair of 60-minute matches against Serie A side Bologna.

Thiago is training away from the rest of the squad, completing a bespoke programme in order to reduce his risk of injury, the Spanish midfielder missed a total of 21 matches through injury in his first season at Anfield.

Liverpool have had mixed results from the four pre-season friendlies they have played whilst in Austria, beginning with a pair of 1-1 draws from 30-minute matches against Wacker Innsbruck and Stuttgart.

These were followed by a 1-0 victory over Mainz, before they suffered defeat in a thriller against another Bundesliga side in Hertha Berlin.

Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were on target in the 4-3 defeat, which also saw the returns to action of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
