Fabinho’s wife Rebeca Tavares has laughed off speculation linking her husband with a move away from Liverpool. The Reds are desperate to bolster their midfield ranks over the coming transfer windows, though it does not appear that it will be at the expense of their No 3.
It is no secret that Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder in the January transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp even admitting earlier this season that he may have misjudged the lack of depth he has in the centre of the park. With James Milner and Jordan Henderson not getting any younger and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract at the end of the season, midfield signings are a priority in Merseyside.
Though Klopp is not looking to replace Fabinho, it seems. The 29-year-old has struggled in the Premier League so far this season, leading to speculation that he could be one of the next out of the door at Anfield.
Responding to a post from a news aggregator reporting on Fabinho’s potential departure, his partner Tavares responded in the comments section with a laughing face emoji. Thus, the former Monaco star appears to be set to remain with Liverpool and will be bidding to remain in Klopp’s midfield trio.
The Reds have been heavily linked with England duo Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice over the past few months, with the pair doing Liverpool no favours with impressive displays at the Qatar World Cup. Both players are expected to fetch significant fees at the end of the season – as well as fellow transfer target Enzo Fernandez.
The Benfica star has been informed that he will not leave the Portuguese outfit for anything short of his release clause – £103million – suggesting that he would be an alternative to the aforementioned Premier League duo.
But Fabinho will not be fearful of any of Liverpool’s links, insisting earlier this year that he wants to remain with the club for a matter of years. He told FourFourTwo: “Liverpool is a special place – there’s nowhere better to play football, so my head is fully focused here.
“I don’t know what my situation will be like in four years, but at this moment I only think of Liverpool. I don’t think about moving to another team or country because I’m very happy here.
“It’s a special club and, most importantly, one which fights for every trophy. What I want for my career is to be part of a competitive side and win as much as possible. And the best place to do that is definitely Liverpool.”
