Liverpool ‘ready to pay a fortune’ for Kylian Mbappe claims agent

Salah to miss Liverpool matches after fixtures announced

Liverpool are ready to compete with Real Madrid for the big-money signing of Kylian Mbappe, according to football agent Marco Kirdemir. Mbappe could be pushed out of Paris Saint-Germain this summer unless he agrees to sign a new deal, with the French giants fearful that he could leave for free in 2024.

Mbappe has already published an open letter to PSG fans, which detailed his plan to complete the final year of his contract and leave as a free agent in a year’s time. Various reports indicate that it didn’t go down well with the club’s Qatari owners.

Rather than allowing the 24-year-old to run down his deal, PSG are expected to cash in while they can this summer. Real Madrid are thought to be at the front of the queue after years of strong interest, but Liverpool have also been linked in the past.

Kirdemir, who is said to have a healthy relationship with senior figures at PSG, told Marca: “I have spoken with people close to the Qatari family who run the club and they have told me that they are very angry.

“They wanted and had the confidence that he was going to renew. The Emir is very upset.” The agent went on to explain that Los Blancos won’t have a free run at Mbappe, with Liverpool willing to pay a hefty sum to get their hands on the France captain.

“Liverpool is competing with Real Madrid and wants to pay a fortune for Mbappe,” he added. The report explains that it may take a colossal bid of £258m to get the deal done, which would obliterate the club-record £85m paid for Darwin Nunez last summer.

Mbappe is also held to be a dream signing for Manchester United takeover hopeful Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani. However, the Red Devils’ delayed selection process looks set to prevent the transfer from materialising, with PSG keen for the matter to be resolved quickly.

The flying forward has scored a remarkable 212 goals in 260 matches for the French giants. A player of his calibre would bring serious firepower to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad, which has already been boosted by the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister.

Although the Argentina midfielder is currently bedding in, Klopp is thought to be prioritising further additions in the middle of the park after a host of high-profile free-agent departures.

OGC Nice star Khephren Thuram has been heavily linked to Anfield in recent weeks alongside the likes of Bayern Munich youngster Ryan Gravenberch, Southampton ace Romeo Lavia and Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
