Liverpool are reportedly ready to ramp up their interest in Jacob Ramsey after a sensational season with Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old has made a big impact on Steven Gerrard, who has made him a key player at Villa Park.
Dean Smith gave Ramsey his breakthrough campaign last year but the youngster has taken his game to a new level this season.
And there has even been talk of a call-up to the England squad after scoring five times in 20 Premier League matches.
His form has alerted Liverpool, who are ready to make Ramsey their Georginio Wijnaldum replacement ahead of the summer transfer window, reports Fichajes.
The Reds never signed a like-for-like midfielder to fill the Dutchman's boots while the likes of Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have had injury troubles.
And they have identified Ramsey as the ideal man to make the move to Anfield, though it remains to be seen whether Villa would be willing to let one of their top talents leave.
The youngster's pulsating runs from midfield have made him one of the standout performers in the Premier League this year.
Villa boss Gerrard is a massive fan and waxed lyrical about how far he can go after his two goals against Leeds United.
"I know the level of the England players, I’ve been around it, and have enough experience to know it’s only a matter of time but let’s all be sensible and keep calm about it,” he said, as Villa missed out on a place in the Premier League’s top 10.
"I want him to make his own headlines with his football. He is a top talent, I’m loving every moment of working with him.
"He is getting stronger with each game because we’re giving him the platform to express himself. He is in a wonderful place.
"It won't be long before the whole country is watching him I'm sure. He is right up there let me tell you."
