Liverpool part owner LeBron James seen wearing ‘leaked’ special edition Reds kit

NBA legend and minority shareholder in Liverpool, LeBron James has been spotted wearing a special Reds shirt which was leaked on the internet.

The LA Lakers icon choice of attire appeared to all but confirm an upcoming special clothing range with Jurgen Klopp’s side. Donned in a smart black and red jersey, complete with red pinstripes, James strutted into the arena for the Lakers’ clash against the San Antonio Spurs wearing the limited edition shirt.

While the normal Liverpool home kit is sponsored by Standard Chartered, James’ version is instead emblazoned with his own logo, front and centre, and partnered with the iconic Reds' crest and the Nike symbol. The sight of the legendary star wearing the jersey, will be a happy sight for those in love with his merchandise.

James, alongside his business partner Maverick Carter, bought 2% of the Merseysiders in 2011, investing through the club’s majority shareholders Fenway Sports Group. In total, James committed £4.7m of his own money to buy his small, but famous, stake in the European giants.

Ever since, he has frequently been spotted wearing Liverpool kits and other merchandise while walking to matches. However, the sight of James wearing the special kit, would suggest it could soon be available to buy at the club.

If the kit was not already enough, James also wore a special pair of Nike Air Max 1 trainers, featuring his insignia on the heel, as well as the Reds’ iconic logo. Fortunately for the Lakers, his unique Liverpool merchandise brought good luck, as the Los Angeles side went on to secure a 113-104 victory over the Spurs.

James’ interest in Liverpool from a financial and sporting perspective is believed to have played a key role in the Merseysiders’ decision to part ways with New Balance and turn to Nike in 2020.

While the club’s deal with Nike is believed to be worth up to £30m per year, it was still £10m per year less than their original agreement with New Balance.
