Liverpool owner confirms club is not for sale but he ‘won’t be in UK forever’

Liverpool owner John W Henry insists the club is not for sale. Henry – who heads Fenway Sports Group – has revealed they are only interested in investors for the Merseyside club.

Liverpool were reported to have been put on the market by the Americans but any potential buyers have now been warned off.

The club will only listen to offers for investment in return for shares in the club.

Henry told the Boston Sports Journal: “I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about LFC (Liverpool Football Club), but I keep to the facts: we merely formalised an ongoing process.

“Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling LFC? No.

“Are talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale.

“Have we sold anything in the past 20+ years?”

FSG currently own legendary baseball outfit Boston Red Sox as well as NHL franchise Pittsburgh Penguins but are interested in purchasing an NBA team.

That would be alongside current basketball icon LeBron James, who is keen to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas and is invested in Liverpool through RedBird Holdings.

But that now won’t impact FSG’s decision on Liverpool which looks set to remain in the control of the Boston-based company.

The update comes with Tottenham and Manchester United both being linked to takeovers, with fan unrest following the European Super League collapse in 2021.

With Spurs refuting claims that the club is up for sale, formal bids for United have been made by lifelong supporter Sir Ji m Ratcliffe as well as Qatari investors.

Shiekh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani said of his plans: "The vision of the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be renowned for footballing excellence, and regarded as the greatest football club in the world."
