Liverpool ‘may imminently’ sign Otavio before Wednesday deadline for £34m clause

Liverpool ‘may imminently’ sign Porto attacking midfielder Otavio ahead of Wednesday’s deadline for his £34m release clause.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options behind the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

With the future of the first two in doubt, though, and expected departures for fine players such as Xherdan Shaqiri, the Anfield side are not taking any chances of falling short again.

It saw Liverpool get linked with a move for attacking midfielder Otavio, having scored five goals and made 12 assists for Porto.

And Portuguese outlet A Bola have reported that circumstances will make them act very quickly in an attempt to secure the Brazilian’s signature.

The Reds are in ‘advanced talks’ with the Portuguese side over the 26-year-old’s future, with Klopp ‘personally chasing’ the midfielder’s signature.

But the Anfield side are expected to pay a hefty price for the midfielder, with Porto currently having him on a £34m release clause.

This expires on June 30 – this coming Wednesday – before it jumps up to £51m for the man who has been at the club since 2014.

And the report states that this could make Liverpool consider moving ‘imminently’ to add Otavio to their ranks.

Other reports have argued there is less pressure to get the deal done quickly, though, as Sport Witness suggest that the deadline is actually July 15.

Liverpool do have a trump card, though, in Porto’s desire to make Marko Grujic a permanent player following his successful loan spell from the Premier League side.

But the Anfield side want to keep the Serbian ‘out of talks’, with their intentions for the midfielder unknown.

Otavio arrived at Porto after just four years working up the ranks at Brazilian top-flight side Internacional.

Following a cup-double success with his current side in the 2019/20 season, some had suggested the 26-year-old could replace Georginio Wijnaldum deeper in midfield.
