Liverpool may have given Man Utd a huge helping hand towards title

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reviews the Spurs win

Liverpool’s dramatic victory against Tottenham could have accidentally given arch rivals Manchester United a helping hand in the long run. United have made huge progress under manager Erik ten Hag with their narrow win against Aston Villa helping them towards Champions League football next season.

Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham moved Jurgen Klopp’s side up to fifth position but seven points behind their Manchester rivals – who also have a game in hand. Harry Kane scored his 208th Premier League goal as he led a Spurs fightback from three goals down, culminating in a Richarlison injury time equaliser.

However, Liverpool had the final say when an unforgivable Lucas Moura error moments later saw the substitute play the ball into Jota’s path for the late winner. That could have been the final straw for Tottenham talisman Kane who looked a dejected figure as Liverpool celebrated their dramatic victory.

Spurs have lost three of their last four league games and conceded 15 goals in the process. Kane has been helpless to stop Tottenham’s defensive frailties which saw them ship six goals at Newcastle United last weekend and four at Anfield.

Spurs currently sit in sixth and could miss out on European football altogether next season. Seventh placed Aston Villa sit level on points with Tottenham, while Brighton have three games in hand and are just two points back. After their defeat at Anfield, Kane said: “The table doesn’t lie, where we are doesn’t lie.

“We’ve got some fantastic players, we have some fantastic moments, but overall as a team we’re not playing good enough collectively. I live in the moment and to give 110% in every place I am, overall football is about winning and when you get back into a game like this you have to find a to get the draw or go on and get the win. It was a sucker punch for it to happen like that.”

Manchester United fans were heard chanting ‘Harry Kane, we’ll see you in June’ during their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Thursday evening. This comes after United have been linked with paying £100million for the 29-year-old, a fee that would make him the most expensive signing in the club’s entire history.

Despite Spurs’ struggling form this season, Kane has still managed to score 25 Premier League goals. United have been short of league goals, netting just 49 times, and Kane is seen as the missing piece that could help them towards their next league title.
