Liverpool are reportedly in talks with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane about renewing their contracts on Merseyside. Recent reports provide an update on the situation of both stars, with Mane the subject of an important breakthrough behind the scenes.

Salah and Mane have been in imperious goal-scoring form for Liverpool this season.

While the Egyptian has stolen the headlines with his 16-goal tally in all competitions, Mane has been quietly and effectively going about his business too.

Aside from Salah, nobody has scored more Premier League goals than Mane’s seven, and the Reds are currently four points behind leaders Chelsea.

The club’s long-term vision involves tying both players down to new deals, despite both of them turning 30 over the course of this campaign.

Salah and Mane are both set to be out of contract in 2023, meaning it is not yet time for panic stations, but the club are reportedly working hard to prevent it from getting to that point.

Up to now, the priority has seemingly been resolving Salah’s future, but according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the club’s hierarchy have also started to make plans to Mane’s renewal too.

“We always talk about Mo Salah and Liverpool are still in talks with him, let’s see when it will be agreed and when everything will be in place, but at the moment they’re still in talks,” he told the Here We Go podcast.

“I wanted to add that the Liverpool board are also prepared to meet Sadio Mane and his agents to discuss his new contract.

“This is an important update for Liverpool, because we always talk about Salah being out of contract in 2023, but also Sadio Mane is out of contract in 2023.

“Liverpool are preparing the first approaches with Mane to enter into this contract story.

“Let’s see if they are able to do it with Salah and also with Mane, but this is the plan for Liverpool to talk and to protect Mane, because many clubs are keeping tabs on the situation.”

Tying their main stars down to new deals has been a clear priority for Liverpool of late, with transfer arrivals taking a back seat during the summer.

In fact, Ibrahima Konate was the only player to arrive in a £36million deal, with the lack of activity frustrating some fans.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson all committed their future to the club though, which may have prevented a sticky situation further down the line.

That would also ring true for Salah and Mane, with a host of top clubs sure to throw their hat in the ring if either of the duo become available.
