Liverpool invite Toronto wonderkid Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty for a trial
Liverpool ‘invite Toronto wonderkid Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty for a trial’, as Arsenal and several European giants including Bayern Munich and Juventus battle for his signature
- The 17-year-old is training with Liverpool ahead of a potential Merseyside move
- Marshall-Rutty became Toronto’s youngest ever debutant in October 2020
- He is the youngest star to be called up to the Canadian national team, aged 16
Liverpool have offered Toronto wonderkid Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty the opportunity to train with the club, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Several European giants including Arsenal – where he has trained previously – Bayern Munich and Juventus are also targeting the Canadian prodigy, who has made 11 appearances so far this season.
Marshall-Rutty, 17, is currently impressing for MLS side Toronto, and put pen-to-paper on a first team contract with the club as a 15-year-old back in January 2020.

The 17-year-old is the youngest player to be called up by Canada surpassing Alphonso Davies
The teen sensation made his professional debut a month later, coming on against Philadelphia Union and replacing former Swansea City midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo.
Marshall-Rutty became the youngest player to be called-up to Canadian national team at the age of 16, surpassing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies by five days, who he has been likened to.
‘I’d say to get compared to [Davies], obviously I was honoured, but I don’t really look at breaking history as the youngest player’, he previously told Goal.
Marshall-Rutty is looking to following in the footsteps of Davies and Lille’s Jonathan David
Davies (right) has been a revelation since moving to Europe and joining Bayern Munich
‘He’s at Bayern Munich and he’s achieved so much, obviously. He paved the path for young players like me, but I just think the most important thing when you’re younger is just to stay focused on the soccer side. All that young history stuff doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.’
Davies and Lille forward Jonathan David have impressed since making the move to Europe, and should Marshall-Rutty follow suit, he would get the opportunity to showcase his talents ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.
‘For Canadian soccer players, it’s a great time in this generation to be a young athlete like me, because obviously you have Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies and Jonathan Osorio that have proven to the world that Canadians can play soccer too,’ he continued.
Lille’s 21-year-old forward David has also shone, and a player Marshall-Rutty looks up to
‘I think the biggest thing for me is that I’m in the perfect time to show the world what I can do, because all those players are doing it too.’
Should Liverpool want to secure his signature, both parties would have to wait, however, as Premier League and EFL clubs are in eligible to sign overseas players until they turn 18.
The right winger is likely to have many more suitors added to the already long list of clubs targeting a move for the exciting up and coming prospect.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could have the edge, however, having already sent 22-year-old academy left-back Tony Gallagher to Toronto on-loan previously, therefore, securing strong ties with the North American outfit.
